Menu Plan Monday, January 2, 2012

OK. A couple of weeks ago I decided to plan the menus in categories… and now I’m taking this “simplify” idea  a bit further. I’m going to plan several weeks in a advance and go to the grocery store only three times this month. There’s several reasons for this: to save money, save time since i won’t be planning every week, and just for the sake of not having to think about it as often.

Are any of you changing up the way you plan, shop or cook meals?

I just made my menus for the week! I try to make as many meals out of what I have, starting with meals that include ingredients that will go bad first, & then buy what else is needed. One thing I have changed in menu planning lately is planning out all meals for the day because if I don’t I end up not knowing what to eat for lunch. My mind goes completely blank! Thanks again for the ideas!

Crazy! Jan 6th is my grandpa’s 70th birthday!!
    Love & miss you all!

FUNNY! On Phyllis’s birthday you are having spaghetti and meatballs! she loves that :)

I pick my meals for a month, and then each week plan what to make from the list. I do 90% of the grocery shopping once I plan the 30 days of meals. I only go ‘big’ grocery shopping once a month instead of 4 times (each week) I save a lot of money this way (I was really wasting and didn’t realize it)

My life goes so much better when I plan a whole month. Plus I save lots of $ that way :)
Happy New Year to the Chiltons.

I usually plan for 2 weeks at a time. I don’t assign meals to specific days though (except I changed it up and tried that this week!)
I go to Sams Club once a month for bulk stuff and meat. I go to Aldi once or sometimes twice a month for the non-perishables. I go to the Market close to my house a couple times each month for fresh produce! I TRY to stay away from the big stores, but I do have to hit up either Meijer or Kroger once or twice a month.

    Thanks for sharing :)

What is your recipe for crockpot meatballs?
I work full time as a teacher and need more crockpot recipes!
    Thanks:)

      Hi Vanessa!
I just plop 2 small pkg of Turkey meatballs (from Aldi) into the crock pot & pour two jars of spaghetti sauce over it & cover. I cook on low for the day. Then all I have to do at dinner time is cook the pasta and serve. (sometimes I even add a can of carrots that I’ve rinsed & then pureed into the sauce before adding it into the meatballs so that my family is eating veggies w/out knowing it! Shh!)

  7. [...] Last week I decided to do things a little differently. Then I took it even further than originally planned. I planned several weeks in advance and then made a huge grocery trip to Aldi for at least 2 weeks worth of food.  Then I made menu plans for 3 weeks, and I keep adding to it every time I think of sometime or spot a yummy recipe somewhere. The plan is posted on our magnetic chalkboard wall & the kids like it there, too.    Now, it’s scribbled on, has arrows & changes all over the place all ready, but it’s a plan and I’m thankful for it. A few of you left comments about your monthly plans & it certainly inspired me. Thank you!!  Hope you’re inspired to plan ahead. [...]
